I keep wondering...

Blogging after a long hiatus--the initial enthu saw me post exactly four blogs within a month of creating my blog (that was around 19 months back)... I am not sure when the next one after this would be... here is a partial list of things that I have thought over (and thought over) in the course of the past 19 months that I could have posted about -

- the Miami Heat winning the 2006 NBA finals
- An ah!mazing season (2006-2007) of baseball from Minnesota twins (from 25-33 to division champs in a matter of five odd months)
- Justin Morneau the MVP!
- Indian (and Pakistan) cricket team's early exit from the ICC world cup... the hardest time I have had as an Indian cricket fan...
- Kevin Garnett's trade to Boston Celtics
- Indian cricket team winning the inaugral 20/20 championship
- Yuraj's six sixes in an over
- One Mr. Sachin Tendulkar
- One Mr. Anil Kumble
- One Mr. Saurav Ganguly
- Johan Santana's trade to the Mets (did not like it one bit)
- Change in career at the personal end -- I am now trying my hands at equity analysis (!)
- Marriage and its impact on me (I have been happily married for a year and a half now)
- Mumbai (and ofcourse Mumbai versus Delhi now that I have spent reasonable amount of time at both the places)
- India's real estate bubble
- Bangalore's traffic woes (do travel to the city quite often)
- My new car/home theater system
- Indian politics (tons of events that made me bang my head in disgust - lets leave it at that!)
- Harbhajan Singh's racism controversy
- ...

eeks! that is a hell lot!

let's just say I am making myself another promise to be more regular at blogging...

my heart goes out for the Phoenix Suns!

hats off to the Suns for the spirit they showed - as charles barkley said in the post game talk on TNT "There is NO person ALIVE who had thought the Suns would go this far (without Amare the whole season)".

The Suns played like a team possessed... incredible for an effectively 7 man roster to do what they did... know this year's NBA playoff song (by Fort Minor)... apt on these guys - here is the theme of the song -
(It's)
10% luck
15% skill
20% concentrated power of will
5% pleasure
50% PAIN
100% reason to remember the name...

yep - 100% reason to remember the name - so remember these names guys - Mike D' Antoni, Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, Leandro Barbosa, Raja Bell, Tim Thomas - they'll be back next season...

and these names would surely be remembered for a long time to come - to have brought back life into a slowly dying league - to have brought the tempo back in the game - the tempo that was taken away by the likes of Knicks and Pacers... trust me - these guys have done a lot for the game with their style of play... HATS OFF...!

was that real? or was I dreaming?...

those of you who have been following this years' NBA postseason would probably relate to the title of this post... I have been following the NBA for close to 10 years now and not once do I remember seeing playoff games like these - and how much playoff action have we seen this far - we haven't even started the 3rd round yet.
its been crazy to say the least... here are some of the highlights thus far that come to my mind...
14 games decided by 2 points or less! 9 OT games! all those buzzer beating 3-pointers! raja bell and jason terry suspensions and their teams carrying their backs...! cleveland cavaliers, yes i said cleveland cavaliers giving the pistons a scare! rasheed waalace's 'guaran-shee' falling flat... steve nash getting back at scottie pippen and other loud-mouthed idiots with another MVP performace in game 7 versus the clips... elton brand's breakthrough season capped by a solid postseason performance... kobe's reluctance (yeah - u read it right - reluctance!) to shoot the ball in the second half, game 7 vs the suns... suns' amazing resilience... and the best of them all - MARK CUBAN'S LOVE AFFAIR WITH SPURS' FANS...
I am sure there are many more things worthy of a mention here... but these are the ones that spring to my mind right now...
I am little apprehensive though right now - have this feeling that the excitement can only go downhill from here - well, I hope not...!

and we voted these morons into power!

sample this -> moron # 1

and now sample this -> moron # 2

I really wonder why the folks in media call this the reservation debate... a debate...??? you must be kidding me - thats supposed to be between two individuals/ groups/ sections of society who know what they are talking... this is democracy at its worst - the problem is this is how its designed to work - you vote the government into power (there is not much of a choice anyway - in most cases, its about electing the least evil among evils), see it play ridiculous games with you - most of the times, you just sit back and take the sh** telling yourself - sh** happens! - sometimes when it gets under your skin (ya - the sh**) - u brace yourself up for a fight - the democratic way - raise your voice - expect an exchange of views or a reasonable/ sensible explanation as to why the representatives of people are taking a certain decision - and what to you get - some more sh** - check the samples above if you haven't already! someone please tell me what kind of a democracy is this...? and what age are we living in...?

and now if i don't feel like voting another moron to power - i would be blamed of paralyzing the democratic set-up by not exercising my adult franchise... so be it... everytime i see morons like KN & AS, i get this terrible feeling of having voted another moron like that into power - and i can't stand it anymore...

just as an aside, i really don't think we should be disheartened with all this quota business - as we move towards globalization & with India gaining clout on the geopolitical stage, think of the day when we succeed in globalizing our version of socialism/ social justice and press the UN for reservations for Indians (based on relative poplulation and 300 years of oppression ofcourse - its an automatic entitlement!) everywhere (ivy league/ fortune 500 firms/ UN itself - u name it!) - and i really think we better overtake those chinese in population by then or they would end up getting more seats and thats not good - right???

First Blog...

First Blog...

Its been months now that I have wondering whether owning a blog is worth the while... I looked at the issue from a variety of angles..

- looking at my needs in terms of Maslow's pyramid - couldn't really figure out which of my needs would my blog satisfy...? got ideas...? do let me know...

- tried to gauge it from a supply demand perspective - din't know i was in for a tedious exercise... its a weird 'market' this - the blog-market if i may... huge supply as well a huge demand... there is a big gap in terms of supply-demand matching though...

- Couldn't avoid bringing in Dr. Porter here - i did think in terms of the positioning ('generic strategy' for purists) of my blog... some thought (to be honest, it baffled me!) and I decided I am going to go against the norm and start out without any strategy (Mr Porter has a name for players like me too - he likes to call them 'stuck in the middle' players!) - i think i am okkay with that...

- the decisive answer came from one little piece of advice one of my folks always gave me while i was growing up 'try everything you ever thought of doing atleast once in your life'... what the heck... let me try being a blogger - lets see how it goes...!

so there i was - knocking at the door of blogworld - i knew it was an open door - but i just thought i should show my respect to the world i have come to admire over the last year or so! now then - how does one go about setting up a shop here...? it wasn't easy - i am used to thinking in terms of 'usernames' but here i needed to think of a title, a url name, and a username ofcourse... that took some effort... its no child'd play as they say...

so much so for thinking and thinking aloud...

and all of you who end up at this blog, (i dunno how - tips on getting people to read your blog, anyone?), please help me gain some 'readership' - i will treat you to a cookie when we meet - promise!
